| Moulin Rouge (Red Mill or windmill
in French) is a traditional cabaret in Paris. You can recognized
it by the large red imitation windmill on its roof. Built in 1889
by Joseph Oller, who already owned the Paris Olympia, the Moulin
Rouge is situated in the red-light district of Pigalle on Boulevard
de Clichy in the 18th district, near Montmartre. Notable performers
at the Moulin Rouge have included La Goulue, Jane Avril, Mistinguett,
Édith Piaf and much others. The Moulin Rouge was also the subject
of paintings by post-impressionist painter Toulouse Lautrec. But,
as you'll can see below, other painters were inspired by Moulin
Rouge ; painters of the 19th century, but also contemporary painters.
The Moulin Rouge was also the subjects of two movies : 1952 film
called Moulin Rouge, starring José
Ferrer and Zsa-Zsa Gabor, and in 2001 Moulin
Rouge, by
Baz Luhrmann starring Ewan
McGregor , Nicole Kidman
and Suzanne
Flon. The Moulin Rouge offers musical dance entertainment for
adult visitors from around the world. |
