The ancestor of the halles is the Corn exchange, built in 1763.
The modern shape of the markets hall was organized by Napoleon. In 1848 the contest for the building of new markets halls was gained by Victor Baltard . Ten houses covered of glazings with walls out of glass , and with cast iron columns were built between 1852 and 1870.
Two last houses were built in 1936.

The Trade Exchange
You find it at 2 rue deViarmes, in the prolongation of the gardens of Forum des Halles. In the beginning, it is a private hotel which was on this site . The hotel knew, by succession and legacy, various princes and kings for owners . At last, it was owned by Catherine de Médicis who made destroy the existing buildings and made build the "Hotel of the Queen" . Construction started in 1572, by Henri Blondel et Jean Bullant. With Victor Amédée of Savoie, the hotel will be transformed into a trade exchange, in 1720. It was the period of the introduction of the money paper by John Law.

In 1748, the building will be destroyed.
In 1783, a cupola was built, it was the greater arched space of France.
Destroyed by fire i, 1802, the cupola was rebuilt between 1806 et 1811. YOu can see now the same cupola. The corn exchange will be closed in 1873.
In 1885, the Trade Chamber will get the building. The Trade Chamber is still using the building.

Saint Eustache
At the beginning, it was a vault at the same place as the church now. The church was built between 1532 and 1640. Its plan respects the one of a Gothic cathedral, Son plan respecte celui d'une cathédrale gothique, but its decoration is the same as a Rebirth. it is 33,5 meters high, 100 meters long and 43 meters large. it is regarded as one of the most beautiful religious monuments of Paris. Considered until 1969 as the church of les Halles, it is today the church of the Forum. Map (pdf) here.
